Spelling

Postby FrancisV » Mon Aug 30, 2010 11:15 am

I just joined vpoc because I wanted to react to a detail in the Vanden Plas history. I am Belgian and Flemish and my name is spelled Vandenplas  , in one word. There are indeed several spellings of the name, but I never came across one with a double 's'. I'm intersted to hear where you people picked that up? I too believe that 'der' (no capital here), would be more grammatically correct than 'den', anyway.
I have unconfirmed info that the Belgian founder originally came from Ostend (no family of mine so far I know), although I'd rather host the 'Van den Plas' tribe in the Brabant province (around Brussels) were apparently the company started.
And for a funny note, if the spelling becomes van den Plas, this, according to the Flemish (Dutch) grammar, would indicate a branch belonging to the nobility  8)...
